Moderate Character Education In Community Empowerment And The Prevention Of Radical Behavior Among The Congregation Of Asy Syifa Mosque, Presak Narmada

Moderate character education is a strategic approach to preventing the emergence of radical behavior in society. This study analyzes its role in empowering the congregation and preventing radicalism among members of Asy Syifa Mosque in Presak, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research explores the congregation’s experiences and practices of religious moderation. The findings reveal that moderate character education is implemented through dialogue, deliberation, participatory activities, and the reinforcement of tolerance, mutual respect, and togetherness. Congregants showing signs of radical views are engaged through discussion and encouraged to participate in community programs rather than being stigmatized. Kyai and congregational mentors also play a vital role in promoting peaceful, inclusive, and balanced religious teachings. These practices strengthen social cohesion and demonstrate that moderate character education is an effective instrument for empowering communities and preventing radical behavior.
